Adulting 101 Panel

Women in Business members dove into adulthood with our "Adulting 101" panel, where seasoned business professionals Jordyn Johnson, Makena Schramm, and Neha Byati shared their wisdom on life after graduation. From mastering the art of work-life balance to acing interviews, this engaging panel addressed burning questions and left us with invaluable advice. It was an enlightening conversation that left our eager-to-learn members inspired and equipped for the journey ahead.

Women in Business welcomed E&J Gallo Winery back for another insightful discussion on the ever-evolving alcohol industry. During our meeting, we dove into various aspects of wine production, market trends in the alcohol industry, and gained insights into the daily responsibilities of an account manager. Our discussion highlighted the various facets of wine production and the evolving landscape of the alcohol market. We explored the company's commitment to quality and innovation in winemaking, and the importance of adapting to changing consumer preferences.

Women in Business was joined by two Assistant Directors of CU Football, Emily Funke and Sadie Baker, who shared their insights into the dynamic world of the sports industry. They shared their experiences about CU Boulder becoming a prominent name in college football. We gained valuable insights into the dynamic nature of their roles and the ever-evolving landscape of the sports industry. From managing player logistics to engaging with fans, a vivid picture was painted of the diverse challenges and opportunities that define the sports industry.

The Women in Business Club met with Jenna Snyder, an esteemed Associate Merchant at Abercrombie & Fitch headquarters, who unraveled the dynamics of the fashion industry. During this meeting, Jenna shared in-depth perspectives on the intricacies of staying ahead of trends, emphasizing the importance of market analysis, consumer behavior, and a keen eye for emerging styles. We analyzed her day-to-day experiences, discovering the multifaceted nature of her role, which involves collaboration with designers, vendors, and various stakeholders. Overall, it provided valuable insights into the associate merchant's role and the strategies employed to thrive in this dynamic and competitive sector.

Women in Business hosted an exclusive resume-building workshop hosted by a Leeds Professional Mentor, Madeleine Broeren. This was a golden opportunity to get expert answers to resume-related questions, uncover invaluable tips, and refine resumes to stand out in the competitive job market. With a resume in hand, our members worked together to craft a winning representation of their skills and experiences.

Women in Business collaborated with CESR Fellows to bring Paloma Lopez, the founder of Future Fit Foods, to speak at our last meeting of the semester. Paloma discussed her spearheading sustainability initiatives at Kellogg’s that created an immense social impact internationally. We learned about her newest project, as the co-founder of Future Fit Foods, as she continues to dedicate herself to building healthy and sustainable food systems.

The Women in Business Club's first meeting of the Spring Semester was an opportunity for old and new members to get to know each other and preview what is to come for the Spring. We also reviewed and practiced networking skills in preparation for our Spring Networking Reception.

Spring Networking Reception

Women in Business hosted our yearly Spring Networking Reception to give WIB members an exclusive opportunity to make meaningful connections with business professionals, discover and learn about different career opportunities, and practice communicating in a professional setting. We would like to thank the professional women representatives from Charles Schwab, E&J Gallo Winery, Epsilon, EY, First Bank, KPMG, Plante Moran, Skratch Labs, and TTI, as well as our lovely members for attending! We hope all parties benefited from this unique occasion!

Volunteering

Women in Business had the privilege to volunteer at Habitat for Humanity in Northern Boulder! With our group of members, we had a blast painting, sawing, caulking, drilling, and more! This was such a fun and positive experience, as we helped residents of Northern Boulder build their new homes and gained new friendships in the club.

Skratch labs

Women in Business's first speaker of the Spring was Tina Edwards, the Marketing Director at Skratch Labs. Skratch Labs is an independently owned sports nutrition company headquartered here in Boulder, CO. Tina dove into the different work environments she's experienced throughout her 10+ years working in the marketing field, provided insight on the different roles within marketing, and discussed the different focus areas within those roles and environments.

the happiness project

Meg Winter, a Marketing professor at CU, went into detail about the science behind happiness and well-being, utilizing content from the highly popular “Science of Wellbeing” class offered by Laurie Santos at Yale University. This included insight into the misconceptions about happiness, why our expectations are inherently bad, how to overcome biases, and the stuff that really makes us happy.

After an overview of the science behind happiness, the workshop became more interactive as she went through different strategies to improve our happiness and overall quality of life.  These included how to view goals/achievements, self-care methods, how to celebrate small wins, and how to facilitate social connection.

She also provided insight into the career options that Goldman Sachs offers.
